Thomas and MWD Blek being reunited live on Good Morning America

One of the most heartwarming milestones of 2023 was reuniting Military Working Dog "Blek" with his former Handler, Thomas Watkins.

After six years in the U.S. Air Force protecting American assets and even the President of the United States, Blek’s career ended due to behavioral challenges. With no agency willing to take him, he was slated for euthanasia, until Project K-9 Hero stepped in and welcomed him to our Rehabilitation & Rehoming Facility.

Over time, Blek's disposition changed. “He was all business and no play in the military, but Project K-9 Hero brought the teddy bear out of him,” Thomas shared.

In November 2023, their emotional reunion aired on Good Morning America, touching hearts across the country.

From euthanasia list to national television, Blek’s story reminds us what second chances can do and why our ability to offer them to working dogs is so important.
