2024 Milestone: 300th Program Member
Corporal Miranda Wright and K-9 partner Bond
In 2024, we welcomed K-9 Bond as our 300th Program Member.
Bond, a Dual Purpose Narcotics and Patrol Dog with the Olney Police Department in Texas, retired on August 14, 2024. Just days earlier, on August 3, his Handler, Cpl. Miranda Wright, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. Miranda dedicated 20 years to serving her community alongside her K-9 partners, with Bond as her final teammate.
After her passing, Bond faced an uncertain future. Fellow K-9 Handler and Cpl. Wright’s best friend, Hailey Calcote, stepped in to help, ensuring Bond was safe during the transition, but it became clear Bond needed the long-term support our organization provides. Accepting Bond into our Pack ensured he would receive lifelong medical care, stability, and dignity.
“We couldn’t think of a better candidate for our 300th member than Bond. His case embodies everything our organization stands for.” - Jason Johnson, Founder
Bond’s acceptance marked more than a number; it was a powerful chapter in our journey of protecting those who protected us.
“Project K-9 Hero accepting Bond means more than anyone could know. The financial burden has been lifted and I know that he will always be taken care of. Project K-9 Hero will help carry the legacy of K-9 Cpl. Miranda Wright and K-9 Bond for years to come.” - Sgt. Hailey Calcote
