Meet K-9 Dozer And See Why He Retired
K-9 Dozer is Project K-9 Hero's 268th Program Member and is from the Grand Rapids Police Department, Michigan. He was medically retired recently after a tragic accident in August of 2023 left him with a life-threatening spinal injury. K-9 Dozer is just only four years old, and was having an outstanding career as a Dual-Purpose Patrol/Narcotics Detection K-9, until a speeding, out of control car hit his patrol vehicle while on duty, responding to a crime in progress. The incident left K-9 Dozer paralyzed initially with doubts he may never be able to walk again. Over the last several months, Dozer has attended physical therapy and countless visits to neurological specialists. With their help, K-9 dozer has since regained use of his back legs and is able to walk with a severe limp.
Unfortunately, it was determined that Dozer will not ever heal to the level of being able to work again, and the decision was made to medically retire K-9 Dozer from active police duty on January 16th, 2024. Dozer will require significant medical care that Project K-9 Hero is honored to now be covering at 100% for the rest of his life. This includes all physical therapy sessions, neurological specialists, routine veterinary care, surgeries, medicines, and prescription food. It is the least we can do for K-9 Dozer after all that he has done for the Community of Grand Rapids, the State of Michigan, and the United States of America!
We put together this video of the night K-9 Dozer was injured in the line of duty so you can see why he retired. Although he worked exceedingly hard to walk again, he will never work again. But now that he's part of our Pack, we've got his back for life. And that's because your generosity helps us help him. Thank you for your support.
