It is with sadness that we let you know we lost two Pack Members in April of 2025. We salute them for their service and will never forget their contributions to our country.

K-9 Flum (C495)
Program Member #322
It is with an extremely heavy heart that we report on the passing of K-9 Flum, our 322nd Program Member, from complications of diagnosed Melanoma. It was an absolute honor for Project K-9 Hero to serve Flum when he needed our help the most!
K-9 Flum (C495), who was only six years old, was retired from the Little Rock, Arkansas Police Department, as a member of the Transportation Security Administration - TSA National Explosive Detection Canine Team Program (NEDCTP).
Flum, a male Vizsla trained in explosives detection, honorably served for four years at the Little Rock (LIT) Airport, responding to bomb threats, suspicious items, and protecting the traveling public.
Over Flum’s career, he helped support airport security operations and stadium sweeps for Arkansas Razorback football games. This includes protection details of motorcades and the private residence of former President Bill Clinton. Flum was also utilized for countless calls to service for unattended items in the airport and in the City of Little Rock.
Flum was deputized through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United States Marshals Service under the Operation Render Safe Task Force for any state/federal call outs if needed.
Please take a moment to say goodbye to K-9 Flum. We are so saddened that we as an organization couldn’t do more for him. We are going to do our best to see that he is never forgotten after all he has done for the community of Little Rock, the State of Arkansas, and our country.

K-9 Pito
Program Member #93
It is with an extremely heavy heart that we share that Project K-9 Hero Program Member #93, K-9 Pito, passed away with honor and dignity in the comfort and presence of his Handler and family.
On July 26th, 2016, Project K-9 Hero helped save K-9 Pito from Afghanistan , where he was going to be put down for no fault of his own. In coordinating with our colleagues at the Department of State, we facilitated his safe return to the United States, after he served honorably as an Explosives Detection K-9 for the U.S. Department of Defense.
Pito found a second career with our friends at Dogs for Defense Inc., where he provided protection to the American public at SeaWorld San Diego and other major events as a POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) Certified K-9 in the State of California assigned to his Handler, Jason Stinson.
Upholding our promise to care for Pito after his second retirement, we officially welcomed him as the 93rd member of the Project K-9 Hero Pack! For his honorable service in Afghanistan and to the State of California, we were honored to cover his medical bills for the last five years of his life. After all, this Hero earned it! Rest In Peace K-9 Pito. We will ensure that you are never forgotten!
