Please Welcome MWD Johny (Y065)
Please welcome Retired Military Working Dog “Johny” (Y065) into our Pack as our 263rd Program Member. Johny was given a date of January 8th to find a new home, or else he would have been out of all options due to military regulations.
With the recent loss of MWD Rosso, we had a kennel space open up and we knew that we had to step in and save Johny’s life. Johny served as a Dual-Purpose Patrol/Explosives Detection Dog in the United States Army from 2017 -2023 at Fort Johnson/Polk, Louisiana with the 50th Military Working Dog Detachment.
MWD Johny was labeled as “excess” and was deemed to be unadoptable to the general public due to his previous aggression issues. There were no handlers at his kennels that had the ability to give MWD Johny a home, as he was medically released from service due to continuous hip/spine issues and severe diagnosed arthritis.
Today, a representative from Johny’s unit drove him from Louisiana to our Project K-9 Hero Rehabilitation & Rehoming Facility in Tennessee to transition him into our care. Johny quickly took a liking to our staff, walking trails, and his new custom indoor/outdoor kennel that once housed a legend in Rosso.
Johny will be in our rehabilitation program until we feel he is ready for his next step towards a fur-ever home. However, we are extremely honored to be a trusted resource for the U.S. Military and the Army MWD Program when a Hero like Johny needs our help the most.
Please take a moment to welcome Johny into our pack. Because of your support and donations, Johny no longer has to worry about needing to find a home by a specific date. We now have his back for LIFE!
