MWD Archer Reunites with Original Handler
Today was a joyful day at Project K-9 Hero! This September 2nd, 2026, MWD Archer, who was admitted to our Rehabilitation & Rehoming Facility in Whitwell, TN, was reunited with his first Handler, Caleb.
Archer was facing euthanasia after being medically retired at the Kunsan Air Base in Korea. He waited in the kennels for a year. Project K-9 Hero stepped in and saved him from being euthanized due to medical issues and lack of space.
Archer's previous Handler, Caleb, got word that he was coming to our facility and immediately connected with us to see if he could adopt him.
"Project K-9 Hero taking Archer in was honestly good news. I started working with the team right away, when I heard he was headed to Tennessee. Knowing he has a good place to be while he waits for me to come get him really is comforting," Caleb said.
Our staff worked with Archer for three months, until Caleb flew from Germany to Tennessee for the reunion.
"I am really blessed to be able to take him home at such a young age and give such a great pup a life outside of work," Caleb said. "Huge thanks to the Project K-9 Hero team for taking care of him and making his adoption possible."
Our Capital Campaign is intended to expand our existing facilities so that we can take in more dogs like MWD Archer, who have nowhere else to turn. Sometimes, all they need is a little more time. If you'd like to help more dogs like Archer, please donate to our Capital Campaign Fund today.
