New Board Member: David Dycus, DVM

Dr David Dycus

Project K-9 Hero would like to welcome David Dycus, DVM, MS, CCRP, DACVS-SA as an Orthopedic Consultant to our Executive Board.

Dr. Dycus attended Mississippi State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine for his veterinary degree, Auburn University for a small animal rotating internship, and Mississippi State for a combined surgical residency and Master’s degree. He became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) in 2014 and he has a strict focus in orthopedics. In 2015, Dr. Dycus became a certified canine rehabilitation practitioner (CCRP).

While Dr. Dycus’ main job is in clinical medicine focusing on minimally invasive orthopedics, total joint replacement, fracture fixation, arthroscopy, working K-9 medicine, and sports medicine, he is also frequently asked to lecture locally, nationally, and internationally through his orthopedic consulting business, Ortho Vet Consulting. Through his passion of teaching, he is on faculty for AO VET North America and is a faculty member for UPenn’s Working Dog Practitioner Program, amongst others.

Dr. Dycus has a passion in helping our Working K-9’s, both active and retired. Being in the Washington DC area, he is a consultant for numerous federal, local, and national agencies overseeing their working K-9s and ensuring they are in top health. He learned about Project K-9 Hero when working with retired NSA K-9 “Tambo” for both wrist and knee issues. It was then he learned more about the medical needs and financial assistance for retired Working K-9s.

In 2024, Dr. Dycus established Fusion Veterinary Orthopedics in the Washington DC area, for advanced orthopedic care, working K-9 medicine, sports medicine, and rehabilitation to dogs and cats.

Dr. Dycus has made his home in the Annapolis Maryland area with his wife, daughter, and two Boxers, and is excited and honored to support Project K-9 Hero and their canine recipients.

Please take a moment to welcome Dr. Dycus to our team, as we are extremely honored to have his expertise in helping us make daily decisions that involve K-9 Heroes and orthopedic related issues.
