Please Welcome K-9 Bailey #301
Please welcome K-9 “Bailey” to our Project K-9 Hero Pack as our 301st Program Member. Bailey served as an Accelerant Detection K-9 with Allegheny County Fire Marshal's Office, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, from 2015 through 2022.
Bailey assisted with 603 fire investigations over the course of his 7.5-year career with the Fire Marshal's Office. Additionally, Bailey assisted the West Virginia State Fire Marshal's Office; the Pennsylvania State Police; City of Erie Fire Department; and the ATF with numerous fires during his career. Bailey also received a Proclamation from the County Executive for his assistance in solving a serial arson case in December of 2015.
Bailey’s career was not just working criminal cases, he also did a great amount of public outreach for community events, schools, and demonstrations.
Bailey has cataracts and his depth perception has worsened since he has retired. He no longer qualifies for free annual eye examinations, and needs to visit a specialist to see if surgery is needed. Bailey also has developed some tumors that need to be looked at, as well as a shoulder issue.
After his service, the department no longer covers his medical bills. Regardless of his outstanding service, all of these costs now become the responsibility of his still actively serving handler, a monetary amount that would be a financial burden on any first responder.
Due to his very immediate medical needs, we are placing K-9 Bailey into our program so we can cover all future office visits, medications, and surgeries at 100%, for the rest of his life.
