Please Welcome K-9 Chief

Please welcome K-9 Chief as the 284th member to the Project K-9 Hero pack. Chief honorably served as a Person-Borne Explosive Detection K-9 for the United States Capitol Police from 2016 through 2024, to prevent potential suicide bombers from approaching the U.S. Capitol and our elected officials.

K-9 Chief worked outside in all types of weather conditions, screening hundreds of thousands of pedestrians coming to visit or attending high-level government functions. During his eight years of service with U.S. Capitol Police, Chief deployed during two Presidential Inaugurations, seven State of the Union addresses, numerous Head of State visits, dozens of summer concerts, and many Congressional votes and events. K-9 Chief deployed during heightened security incidents such as the Alexandria Congressional Baseball practice shooting on June 14th, 2017.

K-9 Chief spent his career protecting the members of the U.S. Senate and U.S. Congress. Now in retirement, he will assist us in asking lawmakers to help protect retired working dogs like him through our 2024 K-9 Hero Act.

K-9 Chief has had to deal with a variety of health issues throughout his career, including gastrointestinal issues, a bout of pneumonia, abdominal surgery, as well as a secondary surgery due to a complication from a neuter.

Since retiring on Valentine's Day, February 14th, 2024, K-9 Chief is currently receiving injections every couple months for severe allergies that can cause extreme skin irritation and hair loss, as well as being by on a very costly prescription food for his ongoing stomach issues.

Regardless of Chief’s honorable service to the our country and the American Public, all of his medical costs are now the responsibility of his handler and are no longer covered by the agency he served, per government regulations. As of today, PK9HERO will now be covering all of his future office visits, prescription food, diagnostic testing, medications, and surgeries at 100%, for the rest of his life. It is the least we can do for K-9 Chief, for dedicating his life to protecting us!
