Please Welcome K-9 Furia #307

Please welcome K-9 Furia, as our 307th Program Member inducted into our Project K-9 Hero Pack! K-9 Furia bravely served as a Dual-Purpose Patrol/Narcotics Detection K-9, from 2021 through 2022 with Wichita County Sheriff’s Office in Texas, until a genetic shoulder issue forced her into an early medical separation from service. Furia required immediate surgery for Osteochondritis dissecans (OCD), which is a joint disease that affects dogs when cartilage in a joint separates from the bone.

Over the past two years, Furia has been living a happy retirement with her still actively-serving Deputy/K-9 Handler until she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer on October 18th, 2024. So far tests show that the cancer has not spread outside of the mammary area and is confined for now. Furia is scheduled for surgery on December 3rd to remove the affected areas before it has the opportunity to spread any further.

During her time of service, K-9 Furia had numerous narcotic related deployments and finds. However, her most notable accomplishment was tracking a felony suspect through a wooded area in the middle of the night, who had led Law Enforcement through multiple counties, in a vehicle pursuit. After crashing his vehicle, he fled into the woods where the pursuing officers lost track of him. K-9 Furia was deployed and tracked straight to the suspect who was caught hiding under a bush, and was captured.

Furia’s Handler applied for medical assistance through PK9H on the day she learned of Furia's cancer diagnosis (10.18.24), knowing that the medical bills would be in the piling up in the thousands of dollars. We immediately reached out to her Handler, who also worked and trained with the late Corporal Miranda Wright and our 300th member K-9 Bond.
