Please Welcome K-9 Krank, #291

Please welcome retired Police K-9 “Krank” into our Pack as our 291st Program Member. Krank served with honor and distinction for five years, as a Dual-Purpose Patrol/Narcotics Detection K-9, with three separate agencies in the south/central area of Florida.

However, a behavioral issue surrounding his ability to continue to successfully work had developed and worsened over time, which led him to an early retirement. Krank has the ability to be very social, but is extremely protective of his reward toy, which has led to multiple bite incidents, to the point he was potentially facing euthanasia, if Project K-9 Hero not been able to accept him in our program.

On the morning of July 23rd, K-9 Krank’s handler drove him from Florida to our Project K-9 Hero Rehabilitation and Rehoming Facility, to transition him into our care. Once we understood and learned all of his triggers, K-9 Krank quickly took a liking to our staff, walking trails, exercise area, and his new custom indoor/outdoor kennel.

Krank is a Hero that can be extremely aggressive in certain situations, specifically around instances where a toy or ball is involved. What we do at PK9H is not to try and correct that behavior, but it is to learn his triggers, and remove them from his life on a day to day basis, so he can be managed appropriately.

We commend both his Handler and the Command Staff for wanting the best life for Krank, and for contacting our organization before he was put down due to his continuing aggression incidents. Project K-9 Hero is extremely honored to be a trusted resource for the national law enforcement community when a Hero like Krank needs our help the most with rehabilitation or rehoming.
