Please Welcome K-9 Chilly Sky #386
Please welcome retired K-9 “Chilly Sky” to the Project K-9 Hero Pack, as our 386th Program Member.
K-9 Chilly Sky is a 10 year old female Labrador Retriever who honorably served with the Grafton West Virginia Volunteer Fire Department, and the FEMA Task Force Ohio Branch, as a Human Remains Detection Dog. During her career and deployments, Chilly had documented recoveries both on land and water.
Chilly physically collapsed this week while out of state, and her Handler rushed her to emergency vet in Dayton, Ohio. Her glucose dropped to dangerously low levels, and Chilly spent the night at the vet in Ohio to be monitored and to try and restore her glucose levels. When her Handler arrived at the vet that morning, they suggested having her put down. They said she would not survive the trip home back to West Virginia.
Against their advice, the decision was made to bring Chilly home. After getting home, the Handler contacted their regular vet to have a complete CT Scan performed. We are currently awaiting results from the scan to determine a diagnosis. While waiting for the results, Chilly has a glucose monitor she is wearing and she is being fed her every two hours to try to keep her glucose levels up. In the first week alone, their vet bill has been over $5,000, which Project K-9 Hero was honored to pay and have the Handler reimbursed.
Due to Chilly’s impeccable service throughout her career, we are honored to step up and pay for her medical care, treatments, follow-up appointments, frequent office visits, necessary prescription food and medication, plus any future diagnostic testing or surgeries for the rest of her life at 100%.
Please take a moment to welcome K-9 Chilly Sky as our 386th Pack Member to our program. We are honored to be protecting her, after all he has done for the State of West Virginia, and The United States America!
