Please Welcome K-9 Areck #336

Please welcome retired K-9 “Areck” (Z367) to the Project K-9 Hero Pack, as our 336th Program Member. Areck found himself in the emergency room, with extreme bleeding from his rectal area that required an emergency life saving surgery. Our organization paid $4,245.05 to help save his life.
After being diagnosed with pancreatitis and perianal fistula, the good news is that Areck is now home with his family recovering and has follow up treatments scheduled over the next few weeks!
K-9 Areck, a male German Shepherd, honorably served from November 2017 to June 2022, with the Department of Homeland Security/Transportation Security Administration - TSA. K-9 Areck, was an exceptional Explosives Detection Canine, and performed his duties with distinction at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Throughout his career, Areck was actively involved in community outreach initiatives across the island, educating college students on the decoy program and recruiting volunteers for training exercises. He also participated in multi-agency training sessions with the U.S. Coast Guard, Federal Security Protective Services, FBI, and local law enforcement, enhancing interagency collaboration and preparedness. In 2022, Areck was selected for a high-profile security detail at Super Bowl LVI in Los Angeles, underscoring his capabilities and reliability. This assignment garnered local media attention, further highlighting the importance of explosives detection canines in maintaining public safety.
Now that Areck is retired, his medical care is no longer covered by the government, causing an extreme financial hardship on his Handler, who is also still actively serving as a Canine Trainer. We understand that the cost of veterinary care is expensive, especially for an active government employed family. The very last thing we at Project K-9 Hero want to see is Areck go without the medical assistance he needs just because his bills were not affordable. Therefore, we were honored to step up immediately and pay for Areck’s medical care for this life saving procedure at 100%, and for the rest of his life.
Please take a moment to welcome K-9 Areck as our 336th Pack Member, and our very first from Puerto Rico . We are honored to be Protecting him after all he has done to protect our country !
Our Medical Fund will help ensure that we always have medical bill payments for Heroes like Areck. Please donate today to continue supporting our life-saving abilities.
