Please Welcome K-9 Breston #392
Please welcome K-9 “Breston” to our Project K-9 Hero Pack as our 392nd Program Member. Breston honorably served as a Dual-Purpose Patrol/Narcotics Detection K-9 with the Frisco Police Department in Texas, from 2017 until he retired on June 5th, 2024.
In his seven years of service, Breston was the most accomplished K-9 per stats and awards, in Frisco Police Department history. Breston has hundreds of narcotics finds and arrests for not just Frisco PD, but he has assisted dozens of surrounding agencies when called upon.
Breston has countless successful tracks of dangerous suspects, and the only bite apprehension in Frisco Police history. Breston has been a part of, and directly linked to, countless narcotics trafficking related seizures of vehicles and large cash amounts. In 2023, Breston competed in the Next Level K9 Texas competition, which had 25 other K-9 teams, where Breston took first place as the overall K-9 team, and he was awarded first place in Patrol Apprehension.
Breston is a full member of his Handler’s family and goes everywhere they go in his retirement. Over the weekend, he was taken to the emergency vet due to an extremely enlarged lymph node (to the point the esophagus was pushed to the side) and highly enlarged prostate. We worked directly with his Handler while he was in the emergency vet even though he was not a member of our organization at that time.
It was determined that Breston immediately needed to go to a regional emergency hospital for diagnostic testing to determine what was causing these issues. After a few review of his tests and medical reports by one of our Project K-9 Hero Executive Board Veterinarians, Dr. Erica O'Donnell, we made a decisive decision to immediately place Breston in our program to get him the necessary help he needed.
After thousands of dollars of testing that PK9H covered at 100%, it was determined that Breston has two main issues. A large right-sided cervical (neck) mass (causing his recent neck pain and progressive hacking cough) and an enlarged prostate (causing him to have trouble urinating). The cervical mass is suspected to be either thyroid or salivary gland in origin. Both the mass and prostate were aspirated. The mass is consistent with carcinoma, which is a type of cancer.
Breston had a CT scan done and the report is pending; we should have that back soon that should tell us which organ the cancer (carcinoma) is coming from. That will then determine any potential surgical planning, and also if a chemo vs. radiation path forward should be considered after the oncologist weighs in. Regardless of what path is chosen by his Handler, Breston and his family have a long road ahead of them and could use your thoughts and prayers.
We are honored to be covering these costs for his very appreciative Handler, which is a monetary amount, that would be a financial burden on any actively serving Police Officer. PK9H is not only covering this week’s medical bills, but we are committed to paying for all future veterinary visits, medications, supplements, diagnostic testing, and surgeries at 100%, for the rest of his life.
Please take a moment to welcome K-9 Breston to our Pack! PK9H is here to protect you after all you have done to protect the State of Texas and surrounding Dallas/Fort Worth Communities.
