Please Welcome K-9 Burt #404
Please take a moment to welcome K-9 Burt as Program Member #404 to our Project K-9 Hero Pack! K-9 Burt worked as a Dual-Purpose Patrol Apprehension/Narcotics Detection K-9 at the Chattanooga Police Department from 2016 until August 11th, 2026.
K-9 Burt is an 11-year-old Belgian Malinois with 10 years of faithful service to the Chattanooga Police Department. During his career, he assisted in arresting hundreds of violent criminals and recovering numerous firearms while also working with surrounding law enforcement agencies and several federal agencies. K-9 Burt was also very successful in narcotics detection, racking up a career total in excess of $3 Million dollars in narcotics and currency seizures. This includes three different occasions where his keen nose was instrumental in removing over 1,000 Fentanyl pills off the streets, likely saving lives.
K-9 Burt also earned high recognition for his competition and certification performance. He earned the regional title of Top Dog in USPCA certifications for narcotics detection and dual purpose(patrol and narcotics combined) as well as strong performances in the USPCA K-9 Detector Dog Challenge (TV Show on ESPN), where he took first place in room detection. In 2020, Spike's K-9 Fund, a non-profit that supports working dogs, recognized K-9 Burt as their very first K-9 of the Year for his work apprehending a violent gang member in a building's attic.
What his Handler is most proud of from K-9 Burt's career is that no officers were ever injured by suspects on any of Burt's deployments.
Due to his extraordinary career and wear and tear on his body, Burt suffers from severe arthritis that is only getting worse as he ages. He currently lives with his Handler, but requires daily supplements to help maintain his mobility, which cost hundreds of dollars a month.
K-9 Burt has served his community with extreme valor and distinction. Due to his special medical needs, we are honored to accept this Hero into our program so Project K-9 Hero can cover 100% of all future office visits, diagnostic testing, prescription medication, and any surgeries for the rest of his life.
