Please Welcome K-9 Digo #347

Please welcome K-9 “Digo,” our newest Pack Member (#347), at our Project K-9 Hero Rehabilitation & Rehoming Facility. Yesterday morning, he received a “VIP Escort” via helicopter to our helipad, where he did exceptionally well with our staff.
Digo has had two separate careers in his life prior to coming to Project K-9 Hero. First, he honorably served with the United States Army Special Operations Command (USASOC). There he worked with a Tier One Military Unit as a Multiple-Purpose Canine (MPC) specializing in Apprehension/Tracking Explosives Detection. He was specifically trained to save the lives of American Soldiers and seek out High-Value Targets worldwide. An in-the-line-of-duty injury caused him to need a hip replacement, and he was medically retired from the Army as a Multi-Purpose Canine due to the extreme physical demands and deployments of combat.
Digo was then re-purposed from an Army MPC to a Police K-9 with Metro Nashville Police Department. There Digo would focus soley on Explosives Detection and no longer participate in Apprehension, Tracking, or Bite Work. K-9 Digo did explosive sweeps for major events in the Nashville area for events such as CMA Fest, Nashville Predator hockey games at Bridgestone Arena, Tennessee Titans football games at Nissan Stadium, and concerts for some of country music’s biggest stars. However, Digo exhibits signs of PTSD from his military service, and has turned on his Handler multiple times, causing serious injury during detection work.
It became apparent that Digo was no longer fit for duty, safe to be around the public, or the Handler’s children. Digo needed to be retired and treated properly for his behavioral issues. We at PK9H worked directly with the supervisor of the K-9 Unit to ensure that once we had space at our 100%-capacity kennels, we would give Digo the opportunity to come and work with our experienced K-9 Rehabilitation Specialists.
Digo arrived in style in Metro's helicopter and quickly took a liking to our 177-acre Rehabilitation & Rehoming Facility. It is our goal to take the time necessary to learn all of his triggers and get him to a manageable lifestyle where he can be adopted out to a fur-ever home.
Please take a moment to welcome this Hero to our Pack, as it is our honor to be a trusted resource for Law Enforcement and the Military when K-9s like Digo need our help the most!
Our Capital Campaign will help ensure that we always have a place to stay for Heroes like Digo. Please donate today to continue supporting our life-saving abilities.
