Please Welcome K-9 Fin #318
Please welcome our first new member of 2025, a Hero that needed to be saved from euthanasia, K-9 Fin!
We welcomed him on January 4th at our Project K-9 Hero Rehabilitation & Rehoming Facility, where he did amazingly with our staff. We had to make some quick adjustments to our already at-100%-capacity kennels, as K-9 Fin had no other options to live out the retirement he deserves.
Fin honorably served with the New York State Police for five years as a certified Narcotics Detection/Patrol Apprehension K-9, as well as a Human Remains Cadaver Dog. He was recently retired on October 1st, 2024 where he was living with his Handler and family in Long Island, until a promotion to an undercover unit forced him into an early retirement.
His original Handler placed him with a Deputy Sheriff K-9 Trainer in an attempt to allow him to continue working, but a serious conflict with his family and current working dog left K-9 Fin in need of a new home and job. After they did an extensive search to place him with any other law enforcement agency, any other experienced Handler, or any nonprofit organization that could assist, we at Project K-9 Hero became his final option before he was to be put down.
Not wanting to see Fin lose his life, we made sure we made space to accept K-9 Fin into our pack as Program Member #318. Please enjoy some of these photos, which were all taken the day of his arrival at our facility. He is a K-9 Hero who is extremely happy to still be alive and getting his second chance at a working career or a fur-ever home!
Our Medical Fund will help ensure that we always have medical bill payments for Heroes like Fin. Please donate today to continue supporting our life-saving abilities.
