Please Welcome K-9 Fury #369
Please welcome K-9 “Fury” to the Project K-9 Hero Pack, as our 369th Program Member, and our 52nd for 2025. Fury honorably served at the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, from 2016 to 2024, as a Narcotics Detection K-9, assigned to the Detective Division, at their Narcotics Bureau Headquarters.
K-9 Fury is a 10-year old German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois mix that spent eight years serving Los Angeles County helping keep their citizens and visitors safe from dangerous criminals and illegal drugs.
Throughout his career, Fury participated in countless tactical operations, calls for service, demonstrations for schools, youth programs, and fundraisers. Fury alerted to hundreds of pounds of narcotics, and thousands of dollars in U.S. currency that was tainted with the odor of narcotics and subsequently seized. During Furys career, he assisted DEA, ATF, and HSI as well as many outside agency's/local police departments with numerous search warrants and vehicle stops.
From Fury’s Handler, who is now retired after 32 years of service with LA County, “I first picked up Fury on October 17th, 2016. His formal narcotics detection training was approximately eight weeks long, which was conducted in house with department K-9 trainers. After his initial training, Fury and I shadowed seasoned department narcotics K-9 teams for a couple weeks and assisted /conducted in the searches of numerous locations. In addition to his formal training, Fury was trained in and conducted search operations in the following locations: vehicles, buildings, schools, residential homes, boats, cruise ships, aircraft, airports, bus terminals, trains, smoke/charred filled structures. Fury and I were also assigned to the Parcel and Container Narcotics Enforcement Team (PACNET), as well as LAIMPACT, a DEA Multi-Jurisdictional Task Force. Fury certified twice a year with the National Police Canine Association (NPCA), and California . P.O.S.T. K-9 standards testing. Fury passed and certified every time.”
Now that Fury is retired, his medical care is no longer covered by those he served, thus causing an extreme financial hardship on his retired Handler. In November 2025, Fury required emergency bloat surgery (gastric torsion) in order to save his life. In addition, due to the severity and contortion of his stomach, which had twisted his spleen, he also needed a splenectomy.
Between the preliminary visit to his primary veterinarian for pre-surgery emergency prep/medication, then transportation to the surgical hospital for emergency surgery, and three days of post-op care, and subsequent medications, total out of pocket expenses were approximately $17,500.00 which the Handler had to place on his credit card.
PK9H Staff has been in communication with both Veterinarian Offices to reverse the entire amount of $17,500 off of the Handler’s personal credit card and on to our Project K-9 Hero card. In addition to paying for those costs, we decided to step up immediately and pay for Fury’s medical care, medication, prescription food, diagnostic testing, and any more surgeries that may be necessary at 100% for the rest of his life.
Our Medical Fund will help ensure that we always have funding for Heroes like Fury. Please donate today to continue supporting our life-saving abilities.
