Please Welcome K-9 Harry #352

Please welcome K-9 “Harry” to our Project K-9 Hero Pack as our 352nd Program Member!
Harry served as an ATF-Certified Accelerant Detection Canine with the State Fire Marshal’s Office in Maine from December of 2016, until November 30th, 2023.
Harry was deployed and worked at over 350 fire scenes throughout the Northeastern United States during his career, all throughout Maine and surrounding states. K-9 Harry has worked with multiple Fire and Law Enforcement agencies, conducting joint investigations. K-9 Harry was responsible locking up countless arsonists, after he searched fire scenes to find the accelerant(s) used to start the illegal fires. Once pinpointed by Harry, it was collected and sent off to the laboratory for testing and later used in criminal court to make a conviction.
In addition to fire responses, Harry was utilized by the ATF during the two-week fire investigations basic training portion for new agents at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC). Harry was also utilized by the State Fire Marshal’s Office to teach fire prevention, visit schools, and talk to children about fire safety, and conduct over 100 community service events or demonstrations.
Recently, Harry’s Handler noticed his mobility has taken a sudden turn for the worst. At just 11 1/2 years old, Harry has been losing his ability to walk at times. Harry has been repeatedly struggling to get up off from the floor, not able to walk up any stairs, and his back legs give out frequently without warning.
With a recent diagnosis of severe arthritis in his hips and spine, Harry is in need to see a specialist for this condition. Further blood tests have shown an elevated gallbladder enzyme, requiring an exploratory ultrasound of his abdomen, which will be costly but necessary to get him the right treatment, medication, or supplements.
After his service, the department nor the ATF will cover his medical bills. Regardless of his outstanding accomplishments, all of these costs now become the responsibility of his still actively-serving Handler, a monetary amount that would be a financial burden on any first responder. Due to his very immediate medical needs, today we are placing K-9 Harry into our program so we can cover all future office visits, medications, diagnostic testing, and surgeries at 100%, for the rest of his life.
Please take a moment to welcome K-9 Harry to our Pack! PK9H is here to protect you after all you have done to protect the State of Maine and surrounding communities.
Our Medical Fund will help ensure that we always have funding for Heroes like Harry. Please donate today to continue supporting our life-saving abilities.
