Please Welcome K-9 Lena #333

Please welcome K-9 “Lena” to the Project K-9 Hero Pack, as our 333rd Program Member. Lena honorably served as a Patrol Apprehension/Narcotics Detection Police K-9, at the Granville County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina.

An unfortunate accident that occurred while she was on duty has left her completely blind and with a significant jaw injury. Lena was medically retired after this incident, after just one year of service to her community.

K-9 Lena is a two year old female German Shepherd that was doing an exceptional job of keeping citizens safe from dangerous criminals and drugs. Throughout her short career, K-9 Lena was deployed to locate and keep illegal narcotics off the streets, and she successfully tracked the location of a wanted armed robbery suspect in a significant felony investigation.

K-9 Lena is left with a list of medical issues that are no longer covered now that she has been medically retired, thus causing an extreme financial hardship on her Handler, who is still serving as a deputy, and has two young children at home.

K-9 Lena is in immediate need of an MRI to determine the extent of injury to her jaw and orbital sockets, which may require an extremely expensive surgery.

The very last thing we at Project K-9 Hero want to see is Lena go without the medical assistance she needs just because her bills were not affordable. Therefore, we decided to step up immediately and pay for Lena’s medical care at 100% for the rest of her life. Our goal is try to help Lena have her vision restored, and regain full use of her jaw.
