Please Welcome K-9 Pope #398
Please welcome K-9 Pope as the 398th member to the Project K-9 Hero Pack, and the newest resident to our Rehabilitation & Rehoming Facility in Tennessee. Pope served with valor and distinction, and we at Project K-9 Hero were honored to be called upon to assist this Hero after exigent circumstances left him needing a home in retirement.
Pope honorably served as an Explosives Detection K-9 for the United States Capitol Police from 2017 through 2026. During that time, Pope conducted explosive detection screening for daily security operations in Washington D.C., which includes but not limited to VIP arrivals (POTUS, VPOTUS, Foreign Dignitaries etc…) Joint Session of Congress, State of the Unions, and Inaugurations.
Pope had an exemplary career, and he was officially retired with his Handler on June 25th, 2026. However, an extreme dog aggression issue between Pope and his new K-9 Partner, along with the size of the home and lack of other resources to manage them, left Pope needing our assistance at Project K-9 Hero.
We were able to coordinate with the Handler and bring K-9 Pope to our facility in mid July. He is settling in nicely, and we hope to place him in the perfect fur-ever home, without other animals, as soon as he is ready since he is well mannered, and does not have any other behavioral issues like many of our other K-9s here.
Even after adoption, PK9HERO will be covering all of his future office visits, prescription food, diagnostic testing, medications, and surgeries at 100%, for the rest of his life. It is the least we can do for K-9 Pope, for dedicating his life to protecting the American Public and our country’s highest elected officials in the Nation’s Capitol.

He is the third Hero we have placed in our Rehabilitation & Rehoming Facility from the U.S. Capitol Police, following in the paws of K-9 Dutch and K-9 Piton.
