Please Welcome K-9 Ryka
Please welcome retired Police K-9 “Ryka” into our Pack as our 264th Program Member. After six years of service at the McMinn County Sheriff’s Office, TN as a Narcotics Detection K-9, Ryka was returned to her original trainer when her handler wasn’t able to keep and maintain her in retirement. After two failed attempts to rehome Ryka, she was out of options as we approached Christmas, and was facing euthanasia due to her immense drive for balls and her intensity for her reward.
With the recent adoption of K-9 Koda, we had a kennel space open up and we knew that we had to step in and save Ryka’s life. During her career, Ryka had a very successful career as a working dog, with a multitude of arrests, finds, and seizures protecting her community and the State of Tennessee.
Yesterday, K-9 Ryka’s trainer drove her to our Project K-9 Hero Rehabilitation and Rehoming Facility, just a few counties away, to transition her into our care. Ryka quickly took a liking to our staff, walking trails, and her new custom indoor/outdoor kennel that once housed K-9 Koda for over two years.
Ryka will be in our rehabilitation program until we feel she is ready for her next step towards a fur-ever home. However, we are extremely honored to be a trusted resource for the local law enforcement and the professional canine training community when a Hero like Ryka needs our help the most.
Please take a moment to welcome Ryka into our pack. It is because of your support and donations Ryka no longer has to worry about needing to find a home, we will make sure that is taken care of, along with her medical care for the rest of her LIFE! Merry Christmas, Ryka!
