Please Welcome K-9 Vidam #361
Please welcome retired K-9 “Vidam” (D668) to the Project K-9 Hero Pack, as our 361st Program Member.
K-9 Vidam, a female German Shorthaired Pointer, honorably served with the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport Police Department for 2.5 years, until a diagnosed medical condition forced her into an early retirement. K-9 Vidam was an exceptional Explosives Detection Canine and performed her duties with distinction at the Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport (MSP), as well as other high profile assignments across the United States.
K-9 Vidam honorably worked from April 17th, 2023 until October 15th, 2025, protecting millions of traveling public and visitors a year to the State of Minnesota. Over the course of Vidam’s short but productive career, she responded to more than 1,400 calls for service, including unattended bags and vehicles, suspicious items, VIP details, event sweeps, and security breaches. This included providing protection for two separate Presidents of the United States, two separate Vice Presidents of the United States, the Governor of Minnesota, and key members of the Presidential Cabinet.
K-9 Vidam was retired due to a preexisting injury to her front right shoulder that has developed a severe case of arthritis, which will no longer allow her to perform her daily duties. Luckily, she will remain in the loving home of her Handler and family to live out her remaining years!
However, now that Vidam is retired, her medical care is no longer covered by the government or her department, thus causing a financial hardship on her Handler, who is a still actively serving the community and is a Marine Corps Veteran.
We understand that the cost of veterinary care is expensive, especially for a Police Officer with a family. The very last thing we at Project K-9 Hero want to see is Vidam go without the medical assistance she needs just because her bills were not affordable. Therefore, we were honored to step up and pay for Vidam’s medical care, frequent office visits, necessary prescription medication, and any future diagnostic testing or surgeries for the rest of her life at 100%.
