Please Welcome K-9 Yce #385
Please welcome retired K-9 “Yce” to the Project K-9 Hero Pack as our 385th Program Member.
K-9 Yce is a 5 ½ year old male Dutch Shepherd who arrived in Michigan from the Netherlands, in the fall of 2021. K-9 Yce was trained in Patrol/Narcotics Detection at the Oakland Community College Patrol Dog Academy, and served the City of Flint Police Department from December of 2021, until the unexpected passing of his actively serving Handler placed him in early retirement in February of 2026 at no fault of his own.
K-9 Yce served the Flint Police Department with high drive and focus throughout his four plus years of service. K-9 Yce responded to over 300 calls for service, ranging from narcotics searches, tracking dangerous criminals, and locating felony suspects in buildings. K-9 Yce’s most memorable narcotics find happened during a search warrant on Flint’s Southside, when he alerted on a construction bucket which contained multiple kilos of fentanyl.
K-9 Yce also assisted in providing security during the Presidential Campaign in the fall of 2024. The former Vice President, and the current President of the United States visited the City of Flint, and K-9 Yce was assigned to the security detail with the United States Secret Service.
However, now that K-9 Yce is retired, in the direct care of the widow of his fallen Handler, his medical care is no longer covered. We understand that the cost of veterinary care is expensive, especially given the exigent circumstances Yce’s family has been unexpectedly placed in.
The very last thing we at Project K-9 Hero want to see is K-9 Yce go without the medical assistance he needs just because his bills were not affordable with all of the other responsibilities the family is now facing. Therefore, we were honored to step up immediately and pay for Yce’s medical care, frequent office visits, necessary prescription medication, and any future diagnostic testing, or surgeries for the rest of his life at 100%.
Please take a moment to welcome K-9 Yce as our 385th Pack Member. We are honored to be protecting him after all that he has done to protect the City of Flint, the State of Michigan, and the United States of America.
