Please Welcome MWD Atina #331
Please welcome retired Military Working Dog “Atina” (X614) to the Project K-9 Hero Pack, as our 331st Program Member. This past week she found herself in the emergency room, with a blockage that required an emergency, life-saving surgery that our organization paid $9,852.43 to help save her life.
From her Certificate for Meritorious Service:
“ATINA PROVIDED DISTINGUISHED SERVICE WHILE ASSIGNED TO JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM SECURITY DEPARTMENT, HAWAII FROM JUNE 2016 TO JULY 2024, DURING THIS PERIOD, ATINA WAS ASSIGNED TO SIX DIFFERENT HANDLERS IN SUPPORT OF VARIOUS JOINT DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE OPERATIONS AS AN EXPLOSIVE DETECTOR DOG. ADDITIONALLY, MWD ATINA DEDICATED COUNTLESS HOURS OF EXPLOSIVE DETECTION EXECUTING MORE THAN 3,400 RANDOM ANTITERRORISM MEASURES, SAFEGUARDING 452 DISTINGUISHED VISITORS, INCLUDING THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, 110.000 MILITARY AND CIVILIAN JOINT BASE PERSONNEL. EFFECTIVE 24 JULY 2024, MWD ATINA X614 IS RELEIVED FROM ACTIVE-DUTY SERVICE, JB2 SECURITY DEPARTMENT, JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, HAWAII UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. BY ORDER OF LIEUTENANT COLONEL STANCO, COMMANDER, JOINT BASE SECURITY DEPARTMENT. THE DISTINCTIVE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF MILITARY WORKING DOG ATINA, X614 REFLECT CREDIT UPON THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE MILITARY WORKING DOG PROGRAM.”
Now that Atina is retired, her medical care is no longer covered by the military or government, causing an extreme financial hardship on her Handler who is also is stillactively serving in the U.S. Navy in Hawaii. We understand that the cost of veterinary care is expensive, especially for a military member living on the island. The very last thing we at Project K-9 Hero want to see is Atina go without the medical assistance she needs just because her bills were not affordable. Therefore, we were honored to step up immediately and pay for Atina’s medical care for this life saving procedure at 100% and for the rest of her life.
As of now, Atina is back home with her Handler and is expected to make a full recovery. Please take a moment to welcome K-9 Atina as our 331st Pack Member, and we are honored to be Protecting her after she has done to Protect our country.
