Please Welcome MWD Bruno (Z589), #294

Please welcome Retired Military Working Dog “Bruno” (Z589) into our Project K-9 Hero Pack as our 294th Program Member. MWD Bruno was given a date of August 3rd to find a new home, or else he would have been out of all options due to military regulations.
Even though our Rehabilitation and Rehoming Facility was completely full, we knew that we had to find the space to save Bruno’s life. Our staff did an amazing job to create a new kennel for us to move some dogs around, so that we could accept him here at our sanctuary.
MWD Bruno served as a Dual-Purpose Patrol/Explosive Detection Dog in the United States Army from 2017 -2024 at Fort Cavazos (Hood), Texas with the 226th Military Police Detachment (MWD).
On June 11th, it was determined that Bruno was being medically released from service, due to an in-the -line-of-duty injury that causes him a great amount of pain to his back hips. MWD Bruno was labeled as “excess” and was deemed to be unadoptable to the general public due to his previous aggression issues and bite history. There were no handlers at his kennels that had the ability to give MWD Bruno a home, leaving him no other options.
During his career, Bruno completed over 25 missions with the United States Secret Service, protecting the President of the United States, as well as serving a tour in the Middle East in the country of Qatar. Bruno is a graduate of the “Enhanced Course” that allowed him to search for explosive devices off leash, as well as being on the Special Response Team (SRT).
Yesterday, Bruno’s handler drove him from Texas to our Project K-9 Hero Rehabilitation and Rehoming Facility in Tennessee to transition him into our care. Bruno quickly took a liking to our staff, walking trails, and his new custom indoor/outdoor kennel that once housed a legend in MWD Rosso (T206).
Bruno will be in our rehabilitation program until we feel he is ready for his next step towards a fur-ever home. However, we are extremely honored to be a trusted resource for the U.S. Military, and the Army MWD Program (MWD Adoptions), when a Hero like Bruno needs our help the most.
Please take a moment to welcome Bruno into our pack, and because of your support and donations Bruno no longer has to worry about needing to find a home by a specific date. We now have his back for LIFE!
Our Capital Campaign Fund will help ensure that we always have space for Heroes like Bruno. Please donate today to grow our life-saving capacity.
