Please Welcome MWD Pocok (C440) #372
Please take a moment to welcome retired United States Air Force, Military Working Dog “Pocok” (C440), as the 372nd member to our Project K-9 Hero Pack!
MWD Pocok honorably served with the 341st Training Squadron at Lackland Air Force Base, from May of 2020 until July of 2023. A severe back injury while conducting apprehension work led Pocok to an early medical retirement, and the need to be adopted.
Pocok was extremely lucky to be adopted by Dr. Shirley Meredith, who previously had adopted MWD Uumbro, PK9H #144, and had been living a wonderful life with her in Kentucky, until this week, when Shirley reached out to our organization, on Monday 1/12, with an emergency medical situation with symptoms that required an immediate visit to MedVet Cincinnati.
On Tuesday of the week of 1/13, Pocok was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit overnight after his Labs and X-rays, so he could be seen by Oncology on Wednesday morning. For the initial diagnostic testing that Pocok needed, and the overnight stay in ICU that evening, PK9H made an deposit of $3,800.00 to continue to find out answers for this deserving retired Military Working Dog.
Once Pocok was seen by the Oncologist, it was determined that he required further diagnostic testing to fully understand his diagnosis. A CT Scan and an Angiogram were ordered, and PK9H made a second deposit of $8,350.00, as we continued to find answers for Pocok.
After the diagnostic testing, it was determined that Pocok had Metastatic Lesions on the lining of his left lung from the Mediastinal Mass. The mass is constricting the inferior vena cava causing the fluid back up in the abdomen. Because the mass is so large, and the metastatic lesions are spread throughout, Radiation Therapy, nor Chemotherapy, is a viable option for Pocok. Late last night, Pocok was released to go home and receive Pallative Care at the house. At this time, the Doctors were unable tell what type of cancer this is, or how aggressively it is spreading.
We at Project K-9 Hero have paid $12,150.00 for Pocok’s medical care, and we are grateful to have part of that returned in the form of a courtesy credit from MedVet of $1,255.87 to help with those fees. We are honored to be committing to covering his continuous medical needs, appointments, diagnostic testing, physical therapy rehabilitation, and treatment for his cancer diagnosis at 100% for the rest of his life.
Please take a moment to welcome retired MWD Pocok to our PK9H Pack!
