Please Welcome MWD Ziva (V656)
Please welcome retired Military Working Dog (MWD), United States Marine Corps, Combat Tracking Dog (CTD) "Ziva" (V656) posthumously to our Project K-9 Hero Pack as our 271st Program Member!
We were notified around midnight Thursday evening, and into the early morning hours of Friday, that Ziva was admitted to the emergency room with aspirated lungs and was in critical condition.
A requirement of $2,000 was quoted initially, but as the situation worsened the estimate climbed to $9,000, causing her Handler to apply for their high-interest-rate care credit program. We immediately stated we wanted to help and to please keep us updated, but it was too late, and Ziva had been laid to rest minutes before with her Handler by her side.
We spoke in-depth with the Handler that same morning and expressed our condolences, wishing we could have done more to help.
Unfortunately, nothing else could have been done as she had become septic. The final ER bill totaled, $1,431.36 which PK9H was honored to take care of at 100%. We had her Handler’s initial charges reversed to our card immediately. While we may not be able to serve Ziva for years to follow, we will be providing her Handler with a custom portrait to remember her fur-ever! It’s the least we can do for this Hero, after all she has done to protect so many of our members of our military worldwide!
MWD Ziva served with honorable distinction for six years in the United States Marine Corps as a certified Combat Tracker Dog stationed in Okinawa, Japan with the USMC’s 3rd Law Enforcement Battalion. MWD Ziva deployed twice in support of operations aboard Naval Ships such as the USS Wasp (LHD-1) a multipurpose amphibious assault ship, in the Indo-Pacific region. Ziva sailed from Japan to Korea and all the way down to Singapore to support the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit.
When not on deployment, Ziva would use her skills to assist the U.S. Air Force Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) Program. MWD Ziva was a highly decorated Veteran, and we are proud to honor her as such.
