Please Welcome Sergeant Bo #340
We at Project K-9 Hero are extremely honored to welcome Sergeant “Bo,” a highly decorated Therapy Dog, who served the Metro Nashville Police Department, when the citizens needed his presence the most. Please take a moment to read the amazing story of our 340th Program Member.
Sgt. Bo has deployed over 600 times to provide comfort to students, teachers, and staff during his two and a half years of service to the greater Nashville School System. He has responded to major incidents such as The Covenant School Shooting, that occured in March of 2023, not just as a one time occurrence, but Sgt. Bo played a major role in the healing process, by continuously visiting the school weekly, to comfort all of those who were affected by that traumatic experience.
Sgt. Bo’s story is extremely remarkable, from starting out as a stray on the streets in Cocoa Beach, FL, to becoming a ray of light when everyone at Covenant School needed comfort and a distraction on the day of that tragic event. From having his photo featured in The NY Times, to earning six American Kennel Club Therapy Dog Titles, and winning the First Responder Paws Therapy Award, Sgt. Bo is a true K-9 Hero.
Recently, Sgt. Bo underwent a TPLO Surgery, known as a tibial plateau leveling osteotomy. This procedure is a common orthopedic surgery for dogs that stabilizes the knee joint after a cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) injury. During his recovery time, Sgt. Bo had a set back which forced him into an early medical retirement, regardless of his desire to keep serving his community.
Now that Sgt. Bo is no longer assigned as a Police Officer, his medical bills fall solely on his Handler, who has worked for the department for 34 years. Sgt. Bo is currently undergoing rehabilitation post-TPLO surgery, and is receiving treatment for skin allergies. He is currently on medication and supplements that are extremely costly.
As our 340th Program Member, Sgt. Bo will have all of his veterinary office visits, consultations, surgeries, emergency needs, medication, and prescription foods paid for at 100% for the rest of his life by Project K-9 Hero.
