The Jodi Johnson Memorial Scholarship

The Jodi Johnson Memorial Scholarship was created to remember the life of our founder's sister. Jodi was a smart and outgoing woman who excelled in athletics, academics, music, and community involvement. Jodi was also a lifelong animal lover who was an outspoken supporter for our work at Project K-9 Hero. Each winner will receive a $1,000 award, paid directly to their educational institution of choice.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS


  • Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.

  • Applicant must be 17 years of age or older, graduating with a high school diploma or equivalent in 2026.

  • Applicant shall have obtained a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher with a demonstrated record of good attendance.

  • Applicant shall be accepted and entered into a field of study at an accredited post-secondary institution or accredited veterinary technician school.

  • Applicant shall be in one of the following fields of study: pre-vet, pre-med, animal science, biology, physiology, zoology, veterinary science, biological science, or chemistry.

  • Applicant shall be pursuing an associate, undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate degree.

  • Applicant must be available for a personal interview by the Scholarship Awards Committee, if requested.

  • Preference will be given to applicants of the state of Michigan, more specifically to students who are athletes and/or musicians of Lapeer Community Schools with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.


This scholarship is awarded in the amount of $1,000 for tuition and fees required for enrollment or attendance at an educational institution.  This scholarship shall be directly distributed to the recipient's educational institution.

Project K-9 Hero is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring the best quality of life for retired Police K-9s and Military Working Dogs by providing medical care, prescription food, and death benefit assistance, as well as rehabilitation and rehoming services, to those who need them. Our vision is to honor their unwavering dedication by creating a global environment that celebrates their heroic service. We strive to reshape perceptions, ensuring these valiant animals are revered and respected for their loyalty. Through our efforts, we aim to provide these remarkable companions with the dignified post-service life they rightfully deserve, offering access to comprehensive healthcare and advocating for a quality way of life in recognition of their selfless contributions.
