MORE ABOUT OWEN

Career Stats: K-9 Owen was one of the first 4 K-9's the U.S. Capitol Police acquired in 2010 to screen pedestrians for detection of any possible suicide bombers as they approached the U.S. Capitol. He worked outside in all types of weather conditions, screening hundreds of thousands of pedestrians coming to visit or attending government functions like the State of the Union Address, Inauguration of the President. K-9 Owen worked 7 years protecting the Nations Capitol and Congress.

One of Owen's last deployment was the July 4th concert in 2016 when he indicated on a group of people walking toward the security check point and quickly singled out a female walking in the group. Officers moved in to stop and ID the person, and investigation revealed that she was a Federal Agent with her service weapon on her that had been fired for qualification recently. There must have been enough powder residue still there for him to pick it up. K-9 Owen has an exceptional sense of smell.
