Name: MWD “Bety” R204

Agency: United States Air Force

Discipline: Dual-Purpose: Patrol and Explosive Detection

MORE ABOUT BETY

Career Stats: MWD Bety spent her entire career at Fairchild AFB, WA providing law enforcement and sweeping protection level one resources for explosives. Fairchild AFB is home to SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape) cadet training and because of MWD Bety’s tenacity, they had to change their regulations on how to evade a dog in enemy territory.

MWD Bety served alongside U.S. Secret Service all over the nation, including the 2012 Republican National Convention. MWD Bety was the lead explosive detection dog used during a 460-mile route clearance for President Obama. She also served the local community by responding to bomb threats in the surrounding areas of Spokane, WA. MWD Bety frequently swept Eastern Washington University during home football games. MWD Bety deployed to two undisclosed locations in the Middle East during Operation Enduring Freedom and Inherit Resolve.

Additional Information: Even now that Bety is retired since July 1st, 2017, she acts like a working dog and resides with her family outside

of San Antonio, TX. Occasionally, her handler will take her to the Lockhart Prison, while she teaches inmates how to train dogs. Bety and her handler assist with a program to give the inmates a second chance at society. The inmates enjoy Bety’s company and it is very therapeutic for each of them. Since retiring, MWD Bety has had a series of health issues that Project K-9 Hero has assisted with. This includes an oral surgery in May of 2018, which was a financial burden on her disabled veteran handler.

MWD Bety has been diagnosed with Degenerative Disc Disease, Laryngeal Paralysis, Severe Arthritis. All of which Project K-9 Hero is assisting with by paying for her Veterinarian visits and medications at 100%. MWD Bety inspired an annual fundraiser called, Krawl4K9s, in Mico, Texas. This event is for off-road enthusiasts to drive the trails, camp, and spread awareness for retired Police, Military, and Search and Rescue K-9’s. This event was organized and is ran by MWD Bety’s handler and family, where all proceeds and donations are given back to Project K-9 Hero to continue their mission of “Protecting Those Who Protected Us.”
