Career Stats: MWD Dio and his handler, Allison, were deployed in 2013. They were attached to the fifth Special Forces Group. Dio assisted numerous Secret Service missions as well as a short tour to Greenland in 2014. After retiring in 2018, Dio went into emergency surgery for obstruction in his bowels. The cost of the surgery was around $8K. When heroes like Dio retire, there are no government funds in place to help them with medical bills, so they go straight to
the K-9's handler. That large amount of money is an extreme financial burden on someone like Allison, who is transitioning from the Air Force to a civilian career. Project K-9 Hero is now covering MWD Dio's medical bills for the rest of his life, so that he can have the retirement he deserves after all that he has done for us.
