World Police & Fire Games Welcomes K-9 Biathlon as New Sport in Partnership with Project K-9 Hero
BIRMINGHAM, AL – Project K-9 Hero, nationally acclaimed as one of the top nine charities supporting police officers, together with the World Police & Fire Games, proudly announce the inclusion of the K-9 Biathlon as an official sport in the upcoming 2025 Games. This partnership marks a significant expansion in both organizations' commitment to celebrating and supporting the critical roles of K-9 units in public safety.
Both organizations are dedicated to the welfare of service animals and their handlers. Project K-9 Hero, which supports retired police and military K-9 units, and the World Police & Fire Games, which promotes camaraderie among first responders, are excited to spotlight this challenging new event.
Jason Johnson, Founder and CEO of Project K-9 Hero, shared his enthusiasm for the collaboration: "We are proud to now be working with the World Police and Fire Games, for what we hope to be a long-term global relationship. This partnership not only enhances worldwide awareness of our mission but also highlights the critical work and dedication of law enforcement and fire service K-9 units. The addition of the K-9 Biathlon will bring a new level of excitement and recognition to the invaluable contributions of these units and the support systems necessary to maintain their health and welfare after their retirements.”
The 2025 World Police & Fire Games are scheduled to take place in Birmingham, Alabama, from June 27 through July 6, 2025. The event will feature approximately 10,000 first responders from around the world competing in over 60 sports, including the newly introduced K-9 Biathlon, an extremely challenging 5K obstacle course run with a K-9 partner.
