An A-MAY-zing Month for Our Heroes!
We have so much to share with you! Our momentum as an organization continues to build each month, fueled by the generosity of our donors and the enthusiasm of our supporters. We’re incredibly proud of how far we’ve come, and it’s all made possible by our supporters and partners!
First, we want to tell you we have a new way to donate to our organization through a simple round up program with Pitching Change. Enroll your credit card and donate to our nation's retired K-9 Heroes with every purchase you make. It's tax deductible, automatic, and simple. Learn more about it and give with ease.
Please join us in saying farewell and thank you to Project K-9 Hero Kennel Technician Chris Haynes. For nearly two years, Chris was instrumental in the success and care of the retired working dogs at our Rehabilitation & Rehoming Facility in Tennessee. He is moving away for a work opportunity for his wife and will be greatly missed by our Project K-9 Hero family.
In his stead, we welcome Garry Templeton to our Pack as a part-time K-9 Rehabilitation Specialist. Garry was raised in Middle Tennessee and has decades of experience training working dogs. We are honored to add a K-9 Professional with Garry’s experience, knowledge, and expertise to our team. You can read his full bio on our blog.

MPC Laika
Program Member #332
Please welcome Multi-Purpose Canine (MPC) "Laika" to our Project K-9 Hero Pack as our 332nd Program Member. MPC Laika served honorably with extreme valor for four years with the U.S. Army's 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne), at Fort Lewis, Washington.
MPC Laika deployed twice in support of combat operations in Afghanistan with her unit. MPC Laika was trusted with leading teams of Special Forces members to safely and assuredly accomplish their directed combat missions. During both rotations in Afghanistan, Laika successfully detected explosives caches and assisted in the apprehension of enemy combatants. All of Laika’s noble actions mitigated risk to each and every operator on those missions.

MWD BBERIK
Program Member #335
Please welcome Retired Military Working Dog “BBerik” (A048) as the 335th Member to our Project K-9 Hero Pack. MWD BBerik is retired from the United States Air Force, where he served with valor and distinction as a Patrol/Explosives Detection K-9 at Vandenberg Air Force Base, California.

It is with sadness that we let you know we lost two Pack Members in April of 2025. We salute them for their service and will never forget their contributions to our country. You can read their full End of Watch post on our website.
K-9 Flum (C495)
Program Member #322
It is with an extremely heavy heart that we report on the passing of K-9 Flum, our 322nd Program Member, from complications of diagnosed Melanoma. It was an absolute honor for Project K-9 Hero to serve Flum when he needed our help the most!
K-9 Flum (C495), who was only six years old, was retired from the Little Rock, Arkansas Police Department, as a member of the Transportation Security Administration - TSA National Explosive Detection Canine Team Program (NEDCTP).
His service will not be forgotten.
September 16th, 2018- April 7th, 2025

K-9 Pito
Program Member #93
It is with great sadness that we share that Project K-9 Hero Program Member #93, K-9 Pito, passed away with honor and dignity in the comfort and presence of his Handler and family.
On July 26th, 2016, Project K-9 Hero helped save K-9 Pito from Afghanistan, where he was going to be put down for no fault of his own. In coordinating with our colleagues at the Department of State, we facilitated his safe return to the United States after he served honorably as an Explosives Detection K-9 for the U.S. Department of Defense.
Pito will always be remembered.
